How It Works

This calculator compares your current flat-rate plan against a time-of-use (TOU) plan. TOU charges different rates depending on when you use electricity: peak (expensive, usually 2-7 PM), off-peak (cheap, nights and weekends), and sometimes shoulder (in-between).

Enter your monthly usage, peak rate, off-peak rate, flat rate, and what percentage of your usage happens during peak hours. The calculator tells you whether TOU saves or costs you money, and models battery arbitrage if you add storage.

Tip: If you work from home and run AC during peak hours, TOU usually costs more. If you can shift laundry, dishwasher, and EV charging to off-peak, TOU can save $20-60 per month.
